Michael Lockwood is a clinical social worker who has had a variety of career experiences that have included school social work, group home manager, home health and hospice care, therapist at a residential treatment center, and therapist at outpatient treatment clinic. Michael has a special interest in serving families, marriages, issues with parenting, teenagers, and children. Michael considers himself to be a Christian-based provider, as these beliefs shape his worldview and guidance to himself and others. Michael uses evidenced-based methodologies that include: client-centered, strengths-based, solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist him in his practice. He also is a state board-approved clinical supervisor for mental health clinicians in-training.
Michael grew up in the Twin Cities and went to college in Duluth, MN. Michael recently moved to Aberdeen, SD from MN with his wife of 20+ years and they have been blessed with 5 children. A few of the activities that Michael enjoys are attending church, camping, fishing, hockey, playing/listening to music, watching movies, and volunteering/service work. Michael is based in Aberdeen, SD and is licensed in South Dakota. He is currently offering in-office and telehealth counseling services.
